A shed kit should be treated as a small outdoor building system. The base, floor, walls, roof and doors depend on each other, and a site problem can show up as doors that will not align or roof panels that do not meet correctly.
Match the Kit to the Site
- Kit footprint.
- Prepared base/foundation.
- Drainage.
- Access around structure.
- Floor package.
- Wall/roof package.
- Door/window components.
- Manufacturer anchoring.
Shed Base, Main Shell and Working Openings
The floor or base interface should be stable and square before walls go up. A crooked base is difficult to correct later. Wall panels establish the building geometry. Doors, windows and vents should be checked after the main shell is anchored.
Anchoring & Outdoor Exposure
Manufacturer anchors should be used as specified. Wind and drainage conditions are part of the site planning.
Shed Questions
Does assembly include building a slab?
No.
Can a shed be placed on an uneven site?
The base should meet the product requirements before assembly.
Roof edges, vents and windows should also be checked after the shell is complete. Water-shedding overlaps should follow the kit design rather than being reversed to make one panel fit more easily.
- Floor/base stable.
- Walls square.
- Roof panels aligned.
- Doors/windows operate.
- Vents/accessories installed.
- Anchoring complete.
- Water-shedding overlaps preserved.
- No electrical/custom work assumed.
If the shed includes ramps, shelves or loft components, those accessories should be installed after the main building is anchored and the doors operate correctly. They should not be used to brace or straighten a distorted shell.
The site around the shed should remain accessible enough for maintenance and for doors to open fully. A tight fence line can make a correctly assembled shed difficult to use.
If the shed floor will carry shelves or equipment, the product's intended floor system and support should be preserved rather than overloaded by custom interior use not included in the kit.
Use the site chat with the shed model, footprint and current base/site condition.
