Screen Room & Screenhouse Installation in Champaign, IL

On this page

A screened enclosure creates an outdoor space that remains open to air while reducing insect entry. The project may enclose an existing porch or patio area or use a standalone screenhouse product.

Existing Porch/Patio vs New Structure

An existing roof and floor can provide part of the enclosure, but the supporting structure still needs to be suitable for new framing and screen panels.

Existing covered porchAdd framed screen panels and doors where structure is suitable.
Existing patio with roofCoordinate screen framing with current posts and roof.

New custom screened structureMay involve broader outdoor-structure construction.

Screen Panels, Doors and Everyday Access

Framing creates the panel openings, while screen material provides insect control and airflow. Panel dimensions should work with doors and existing posts rather than being added randomly.

Door location should support normal circulation and not weaken the surrounding frame.

Existing Structure Must Be Worth Enclosing

Adding screens to a porch with leaking roof connections or unstable posts can hide rather than solve problems. The roof, floor and main supports should be serviceable before the enclosure is built around them.

Screen-panel layout also affects appearance and replacement. Large unsupported spans may need intermediate framing depending on the selected system.

Existing Roof Connections and Enclosure Expectations

Water entry at roof or wall connections should be resolved before screens enclose the area. A screen room is not a glazed conditioned room. A sunroom uses windows or glazing and has different comfort, insulation and enclosure expectations.

Screen Material Is Only One Part of Comfort

Shade, roof coverage and orientation influence how usable a screen room feels in different weather. Screens improve airflow and insect control but do not provide the same thermal enclosure as glazing.

That distinction should be clear so a user expecting a conditioned room is routed to Sunroom & Solarium instead.

  • Existing roof or new roof.
  • Porch/patio/slab condition.
  • Frame layout.
  • Screen panel system.
  • Door location.
  • Water entry at roof/wall transitions.
  • Open-air seasonal use.
  • No assumption of conditioned-space performance.

A screen enclosure should also preserve drainage at the floor edge. Closing an outdoor area with screen panels should not trap water against framing or the house.
