Pinball machines usually arrive largely assembled but not ready to play. The cabinet must be supported while legs are installed, the backbox has to be raised and secured, and manufacturer connections must be completed without turning setup into electronics repair.
Room Access Before Setup
The heavy cabinet should reach the final room before the legs and backbox make it harder to move.
- Move cabinet to final room.
- Support cabinet safely for leg installation.
- Install legs and lower cabinet into position.
- Raise and secure backbox.
- Complete manufacturer connectors.
- Level the cabinet and perform normal power-on check.
Backbox Connections and Cabinet Leveling
Connectors supplied between cabinet and backbox can be part of normal setup. Failed boards, displays or internal electronics are not. Pinball play depends on cabinet position. The machine should be stable and adjusted using the product's normal leveling features. Once the legs and backbox are installed, the machine becomes taller and more awkward to move. Planning the final orientation before setup reduces the need to shift a heavy cabinet across the room later.
The backbox should also be secured before the machine is powered. Manufacturer connectors should be seated as designed and left accessible enough for normal service, not pinched behind a forced panel.
- Cabinet reaches final location first.
- Legs and bolts are complete.
- Backbox locks/fastens correctly.
- Manufacturer connectors are seated.
- Cabinet is leveled in final position.
- Power-on reveals no obvious setup issue requiring repair.
Backbox hinges or support arms should be handled in the sequence the machine uses. Raising a backbox without the intended hardware in place can place unnecessary stress on connectors or cabinet edges. If the pinball machine includes removable glass or loose accessories for transport, those pieces should be secured or reinstalled only after the cabinet is stable. Normal setup should preserve the machine's original configuration rather than turning into restoration work.
