Patio heaters can be propane, electric or another product-specific configuration, but ordinary assembly should remain at the product level. The base, pole/frame, heater head and reflector or guard need to be assembled before any normal manufacturer-supplied fuel or power components are set up.

Assembling the Heater Base, Head and Guards
The support structure should be stable before upper heater components are installed. Reflectors and protective guards often use thin hardware that should not be forced into place if alignment is wrong. A patio heater can be fully assembled and still be unsuitable for the chosen location if the heater head is too close to an overhead surface or if the base blocks a narrow walking path. Product-specific clearance requirements belong in the placement decision.
For tall freestanding models, base assembly deserves attention because the upper heater head creates leverage. The unit should stand as the product intends before fuel or power components are treated as complete.
- Base/frame stands stable.
- Pole and heater head are aligned.
- Reflector/guard hardware is secure.
- Normal product fuel/power components are installed as supplied.
- Clearance follows product guidance.
- No utility modification is being represented as assembly.
Wind exposure can also influence where a tall freestanding heater feels stable. Placement should follow the product guidance and should not rely on an improvised weight or anchor that is not part of the manufacturer system. If the heater includes wheels or a weighted base cover, those parts should be installed so the unit can be repositioned only in the way the product intends. A tall heater should never rely on an improvised block or extra weight to correct instability caused by the site.

Fuel or Power Components
Normal manufacturer setup can be part of assembly. Gas-line alteration, hardwired electrical work or repair to a failed fuel/power system is separate.
